Adapted Workshops
A science and music workshop tailored for people with intellectual disabilities or autism
This unique workshop has been specially designed to offer an accessible and interactive exploration of the universe, combining astronomy with music played on the harp. Participants will discover the wonders of space through a captivating journey that takes them from Earth to the stars, exploring our planet, the Moon, the Sun, and distant stars.
Jean-François Janvier-Houde, a science host with a passion for astronomy, will guide the group through this interactive journey in which everyone can participate. Valérie Milot will accompany this space adventure on the harp, helping participants visualize and experience the concepts explored, while also tracing the evolution of her instrument over time.
Participants will leave with an inspiring message: we are all made of stardust, connected to the universe around us. This workshop reminds everyone that their place in the universe is unique and precious, and that we all share the same cosmic origin. This adapted workshop opts for an accessible pace, visual and hands-on demonstrations, and encourages everyone’s participation in an atmosphere of wonder.
Designed specifically for people with intellectual disabilities or autism, this workshop was developed in partnership with the organization Vivre Grand, drawing particularly on the expertise of Julie Bergeron (Communications Manager and Executive Assistant to the Executive Director) and Ariane Deveau (Training and Research Manager).
Vivre Grand is an organization dedicated to promoting quality of life, social inclusion, and well-being for people with intellectual disabilities, people with autism, and their families.
Valérie Milot, born in Trois-Rivières, is a sought-after soloist. Her impressive discography is complemented by frequent appearances on stage, on the radio, and on television. With a talent for making classical music accessible and sharing it with a wider audience, she has amassed over 4.4 million views on YouTube. In 2008, she became the first harpist in 114 years to win the Prix d’Europe.
